Day 3
Day 3
Day 3 was the last day we had to finish up the work at the school. Everyone had a lot of energy and motivation going into day 3, and the work that was done was very good. We finished painting white on the outside of the school building, and also painted one class room. The result of the school after finish painting looked much better than what it had looked before. Since we had finished the football goals the day before, we now had a lot of time to play and have fun with the kids. English lessons were held the hole day. We thought the kids English games with numbers, animals and body parts. After finishing the work at the school, we went to an old wat at the island, where we got a guided tour with one of the teachers from the school. Here we learned more about the Buddhist religion. As an ending of the nice day, we made a bonfire on the beached and enjoyed the stars with warm marshmallows.
Day 2
Day 2
Today, we were all set for our biggest activity. Early in the morning, everyone walked three kilometers to the school. Surprisingly it wasn’t as tiring as we thought it would be. When we arrived we were all touched by the children who attended the school. They greeted us with the biggest smiles, and gave us necklaces made of flowers. We wore them proudly around our necks. In return we painted the dull looking buildings, built goals from scratch using blue pipe and lastly we taught basic English such as numbers, shapes and colors. The children were wonderful, they were very cooperative, and they were very motivated to learn. It brought joy to all our faces. After a long and tiring day of work, we walked all the way back, only this time we felt the pain aching through our bodies. We had quite a long rest on the smooth but hot sizzling sand. Some of us were gathering wood to make a massive bonfire on the beach. Once that was prepared, we went fishing before the sunset. It was quite an experience, there were people on the each side of the fishing net , and they moved against the current. Unfortunately we only caught 5 fish, but luckily they were appetizing. We had to kill time before the usual sticky rice for dinner. We swam in the cold and refreshing Mekong river. Not everyone did though, for they were afraid of catching parasites. Some were walking along the beach admiring the view, while others enjoyed burying someone in the sand. Sadly the bonfire was postponed till the next day since the stormy wind took over the night. We had our supper, gazed at the stars, made a wish when we saw shooting stars, then we slept like babies.

Boys Perspective
The boys and the girls are staying in different places. The girls are staying further away from the school, but the place they live in is where both the girls and the guys have breakfast and dinner. The boys were separated into three groups of three, living in homestay within the community of the island. Some of us were unhappy with the places we stayed in, but our sorrow quickly fainted away, after seeing the amazing view the island shared with us.
The Houses we stayed in were different from one another. Blake, Vincent and Jonas stayed in a more modern house made out of cement and bricks, where T.V. and Fans were present. Eusteen, Arnold and Cassian, lived in a more traditional place, made out of wood and raised by pillars to protect it from possible floods. Julien, Jacky and Hazwan, had the most traditional house. It was made out of wood, and had a very tiny kitchen which was next to the place they slept. The houses we stayed in were very open, and people could see us from anywhere, which gave us the feeling of an unsecure place. We were each given a bed which was covered with mosquito nets to protect us from beastly insect at night. The people at the place we stayed gave us fans, however the night was cold, we were better off without them.

Day 1
Today was an early start to our journey. We left school for the airport at 5 am, our first destination was the local market. We got to see a variety of stands. It was very interesting however when we approached the fish area the smell was rather unattractive. For lunch our original plan was to eat at an Indian restaurant. Change of plans though, instead we went to Hotel Pakse where Julien’s parents work. We were served with lovely Lao food, the desert was ravishing, Mr. Geoff would know. After an hour bus ride we were stuck with watching planet of the apes, we went on boats that sent us to our next destination, Don Daeng. The view was magnificent. We jumped off the boats, where our feet sank in the icy water. It got warmer as were reached the sand. Apart from the splendid beach and our comfortable lodges, the bug population is exceptionally horrendous.
